The SAFE Formula pt. 1
Personal Protection can be broken down into a simple formula. To make it easy to understand we use the acronym S.A.F.E. It helps to simplify the understanding of what personal protection really is and what it isn't.
Fight or Flight
For now, let's focus on Security.
Security is your pre-planing. It involves everything you have done (or haven’t) done before an event happens.
When we leave our homes, we make the stove is turned off, doors are locked, and we arm the security system. When our go to school, we make sure they have lunch money, and a phone with important numbers programed in in case of an emergency.
At home and school we practice tornado and fire drills. We keep flashlights, weather radios, and first aid kits handy. We learn CPR. We keep a spare tire, a jack, and jumper cables in the car.
All of these things full under Security, as well as your physical and mindset training or lack of.
When it comes to personal protection avoiding or preventing an attack is easy. The vast majority of situations do not require physical self defense or martial arts. They require a plan.
That’s what Security is, preplanning for the “What if?”
